I don’t know what being a BRCA mutant is for everyone, but I can tell you what it's been like for me and that the one really positive Super Power I have as a BRCA Mutant is Prevention of a Monumental threat to me and to my family. When you are one of the "lucky" few to have a BRCA mutation, you find yourself making some vile "Would You Rather" decisions. .. .
Like. . .. Would you rather live with the 1 in 3 risk of getting a heinous disease that will likely kill you early in life (no good early detection, no good treatment once found "too late") and live with the stress/worry/fear with every inaccurate test you do take. . . or do you risk surgery (which is nothing take lightly) and its aftermath?
The guy next to me hung up and started commenting about how awful sales people are... . How they don’t know anything, but they make all the money . . . etc. etc. etc.
Being an account executive (aka sales person), I will admit that my immediate thought was "HEY! You have no idea what it’s like. . . . on my end. . . from my side!"
As I was walking through the terminal, I started thinking from another point of view . . . there’s a reason he feels this way – a way he’s been treated that makes him say “this is why I drink” while shaking his head - he was made to feel "less".
